Expand Consumer Protection

• Use technology to increase food safety inspections at grocery stores and accuracy at gas pumps
• Stricter enforcement of Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) laws
• Strengthen enforcement laws for grocery store and petroleum violators
• Push for stricter penalties for misusers of pesticides

Increase Markets for Our Farmers

• Partner agriculture with traditional economic development to create jobs
• Increase opportunities and revenues for our farmers through agritourism and expansion of specialty crops
• Expand statewide MDAC's quick pay (payment upon delivery) program to fruits and vegetables growers
• Promote farmers’ market programs and education
• Build upon existing Make Mine Mississippi (farmer/company-produced) identification program
• Encourage development of alternative agricultural energy resources

Deliver Efficient and Effective Government

• Streamline Department’s operations and increase productivity
• Automate regulatory license and permit systems allowing agri-businesses to register products and services and purchase licenses online
• Attract sponsorships to pay for upgrading Fairgrounds facilities including the Trade Mart
• Seek opportunities to unify efforts to build working relationships with other government agencies, agricultural and forestry organizations, and universities
• Investigate and pursue additional support from private sector and match with Federal grants where available
